touchpad settings crash

reported this issue to bugs.kde.org. they set it as a downstream issue specific to kubuntu.

When clicking kmenu>system settings>input devices>touchpad it immediately crashes. Reproducible every time.

hmmm
searched for kcm-touchpad, it says transitional for kde-config-touchpad. says kde-config-touchpad is installed but won't start from terminal....
any suggestions?
