Bug Description

Binary package hint: k9copy

I apologize in advance if this bug report doesn't match a higher standard of bug reports; I just don't have much time to research this further.

Ubuntu: 8.04
k9copy: 1.2.3-0ubuntu1

I tried to rip a DVD (copied to hard disk).
It never finished on my amd64 machine.
k9copy goes on and on, the progress is usually at >90%, the time left is less than a minute, but it just won't finish.
This (high percentage, low left time) happens already after less than an hour of transcoding.
The output file (no ISO, but AVI) stays on the same size, sometimes a couple of hundred MBs, sometimes 0 bytes.
k9copy is not crashing, it's just taking CPU power all the time doing nothing, and never finished the job.
This happened for several settings, both copy as well as XviD, and so on.

On the other hand, the same DVD on the same settings transcodes fine on my i386 laptop (same Ubuntu version, same k9copy version).
Currently, it's at 35% after 54 minutes and needs another 2,5 hours to finish, which is quite realistic.

I suppose that there's some bug on amd64 machines that prevents this from working.
Does anybody else notice something like that?
It might be a completely different cause than the architecture, because the amd64 is a workstation, the i386 is a laptop, but that's one of the bigger differences between the machines.

Nope, I saw the same behavior on my laptop, just later.
Sorry.

Having a similar problem here with Intel M740 MSI laptop. 2G memory. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes (or chapters) take forever (@ 2% of DVD after 2.5hr). Another time that it happened, same issue as this one, but K3B slaps it straight onto the HDD as .iso completely playable.

I just had the same problem on two 64 bit systems. one Intel t5500, and one dual core p4. Please, someone pick up this issue.
