Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

Since KDE 3.5.6 I get an error with k3b.

I use a Nec +-Burner. Since the upgrade k3b rejects normal "+DVDs" or "-DVDs" but wants "+-DVDs". I am sorry that I could not find this product so far ;-)

It is possible to tell k3b to ignore its error-messages so that I am able to burn.

k3b version:

Architecture: i386
Version: 0.12.17-1ubuntu3

lshal tells me this about the burner:

thanks for your bug report. are you using edgy?

could you provide a bit more information please, you said k3b rejects normal "+DVDs" or "-DVDs" but wants "+-DVDs" what was the error message that told you this?

also are you having problems with dvd media from the same pack that worked before the upgrade or is this different dvds?

Hello Kenny,

thanks for your questions!

To answer these correctly I just tried to burn again. This time k3b did _not_ reject the +DVD. I'm really glad about that - but I am also sorry not to be able to help with this strange bug.

The problem disappeared!

I will write the most I can in case that it could be helpful for others:

1) Sorry for not saying this before: I use Edgy and upgraded from KDE 3.5.5. to 3.5.6.

2) After the upgrade I got this strange message while trying to burn my same normal +DVDs (before that I never received that message). I didn't get this in English - and can only give you a remembered version of the message. It told me that k3b would not be able to burn the DVD because "+-DVDs" would be necessary.

I was confused. Then I tried +DVDs and -DVDs - with the same result. I skipped the work for one day. Updated the system, locked off, rebooted ... tried again.

As I wrote above and as you can see: The burner calls itself a "+-DVD-burner". I thought of a bug in the recognition of the burner in k3b.

Before writing the first error-report I tried to burn again. The same message appeared but I insisted to burn. Knowing that I always used to burn with this kind of +DVDs. K3b did it's job. The DVD is readable and does work.

3) The error message now disappeared. I am sorry not to be able to say how.

Thank you for caring!

I am also getting this problem with DVD+Rs. k3b brings up a dialog saying "Found media: DVD+R (empty). Please insert an empty or appendable DVD±R into drive _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A (/dev/hdc)". I notice that both I Sputnik have NEC drives.

It works fine when I click "force", but that then mutes other errors such as a lack of disk space causing the last 10% of every disk I've written for weeks to be blank :(

Occasionally it works fine without the erroneous dialogue box for no apparent reason. I've had the same stack of 100 DVD+Rs on the go for ages.

I'm using normal Edgy (not Kubuntu), and k3b reports that I'm on K version 3.5.5.

I've attached a capture of the dialogue box, in case that's useful.

Can you reproduce the problem in gutsy/feisty?

Sorry for not reporting this earlier, Mario. - The problem has gone in feisty. - But I think in edgy as well. - Maybe after the Version 1.
