Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

K3b 1.05 with latest KDE 3.5.10 as not k3b is available with KDE 4.2.1 suite
Ubuntu Intrepid 64 bits X2 machine

I experienced a very strange problem while trying to burn RW-DVD's of a capacity of 4.7 Gb (120 minutes) with avi data files ; so far I have had no problems at all doing the job :
- on RW-DVD's of a capacity of 4.2 Gb with avi data files,
- on RW-DVD's of a capacity of 4.7 Gb but burning less than 4.2 Gb.

The problem istself :
- k3b ses the total 4.7 Gb capacity of the RW-DVD, starts the job fine until the very end reporting an error from the wizard (simply job finishes with an error).
- now what is really worse is taht after this the RW-DVD becomes unusable I mean though it is supposed to be re-burned no way to restart the job on it as the k3b says it cannot use it.

Regards.

of course the blank is ruined; so sad since that's $ down the drain. have you turned on 'overburn'? and can you post the logfile from K3b, please?

what is strange is that it is no more possible to burn anything on the same RW-DVD afterwards.

Unfortunately to propose some detailed ilog on the problem from a Konsole run (nothing realy special as an error message from K3b otherwise) is unpractical as I have to ruin another RW-DVD and apparently from what I could get from Internet search the problem is known.
Regards.

Sorry I had missed one important question :
yes in setting "Advanced" (English from French translation ?) I had "authorized overburning" checked.

So you can burn 4.2 GiB, but not 4.4 GiB? That sounds like a units error. 4.4 GiB = 4.72 GB, while a DVD can only hold 4.70 GB.

This is most likely a misunderstanding due to Nautilus' use of non-standard units, Bug #130200 (though k3b's error message could certainly be improved).
