Recording cd and dvd very slow in ubuntu 8.10

Bug Description
Put the speed of recording example 8x in dvd-rom with ubuntu 8.10 only leaves me record to 1X 2x instead of normal speeds of 4 to 16 x wait Always 30 minutes to 40 minutes in recording the data
