Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

When writing to a DVD+RW or DVD-RW (I tried both) with k3b on Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10, it first tried to erase the DVD before use, which is the expected behaviour.

After erasing has finished, it displays an error message ('erasing failed' or something) and dismissing this message lets the writing continue as planned, without any issues.

It is not a horrible bug but it can annoy quite a few people to death if they don't notice that everything was in fact successful.

I've noticed that I seen this error happen on Kubuntu 8.04 and k3b 1.04 and k3b 1.05. I've been able to erase ritekW01 DVD-RWs that are made by Maxell but not RITEKW01 DVD-RWs that aren't screen printed on the label.

I've been able to erase/format DVD-RWs made by Maxell that have the id: RITEKW01 three times straight. I'm only having problems erasing DVD-RWs that have no screen print on the front of the DVD-RW and have the id: RITEKW01.
