K3b crashes DVD writer TS-H653L

Bug Description

I am on Kubuntu with KDE 4.1, working with an internal TS-H653L DVD writer from TSSTcorp. When trying to start K3b, it hangs a few minutes then says no cd-rom device is detected. Then the dvd reader/writer don't work anymore (I even can not open it) until the whole system is shut down and then restarted. Note that it should be some kind of firmware-related crash because even a system "restart" to Kubuntu or to another OS (Windows) keep the DVD writer out of use, and a proper system shutdown is needed to make it work again.

When launching from terminal, k3b says (attached is a dmesg dump) :
