Bug Description

Used system is Kubuntu 8.04

After creating a DVD video structure by means of video authoring tools (Tovid, for example), consisting of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories, K3B and other equivalent programs (such as TkDVD) fail in burning the DVD.

The content of the directory /home/myself/MyDVD/VIDEO_TS is the following:
~$ ls -l /home/myself/MyDVD/VIDEO_TS/
totale 3961692
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 12288 2008-04-15 23:28 VIDEO_TS.BUP
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 12288 2008-04-15 23:28 VIDEO_TS.IFO
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 75776 2008-04-15 23:28 VIDEO_TS.VOB
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 86016 2008-04-15 23:30 VTS_01_0.BUP
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 86016 2008-04-15 23:30 VTS_01_0.IFO
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 18939904 2008-04-15 23:31 VTS_01_0.VOB
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 1073709056 2008-04-15 23:28 VTS_01_1.VOB
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 1073709056 2008-04-15 23:29 VTS_01_2.VOB
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 1073709056 2008-04-15 23:31 VTS_01_3.VOB
-rwxrwx--- 1 myself myself 812437504 2008-04-15 23:30 VTS_01_4.VOB

while AUDIO_TS is empty.

Here the various results:

With K3B the Error is the following: "Could not determine size of resulting image" and the error log is the following:

With TkDVD, the error is the following:

Trying to create the image separately with mkisofs I get the following:

_________________________________________________________
~$ mkisofs -dvd-video -o dvd2.iso /home/myself/MyDVD
I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings)

genisoimage: Either the *.IFO file is bad or you found a genisoimage bug.

To be noted that the same files (those in the directories VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS), transported on other PC running Fedora 7, have generated with K3B a nice DVD without any problems, which brings me to assume that the files are OK.

From what I could notice, the issue affects Kubuntu 8.04 and not Fedora 7, and is related to some problem of "genisoimage".

I suffer the same issue. If I rip the DVD files to disk and them burn them back, the k3b/mkisofs error message is the same as above.
However, this only occurs if the total file size is close to 4.4 GB. Smaller DVDs (< 4 GB) do not seem to be affected.
I have not tried other distro's than 8.04 and have not encountered this issues before, therefore I assumed it started from the 8.04 upgrade.

SOLUTION (not a bugfix):

download pgcedit and extract. give it execute and stick it in /usr/bin.

if your dvd isn't on the harddrive (i've only done it with the raw files, not the ISO), copy it there.

open pgcedit and open your dvd directory with pgcedit (it's the .. (parent) directory of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS)

go to the DVD menu, and select 'rebuild all time maps of dvd'

save

burn
