Bug Description

Binary package hint: jove

There may be two problems here.

1. Sendmail is listed as a recommended package for jove, which seems odd: Why would a (lightweight!) editor benefit from having an MTA installed?

2. Although it's listed as a recommendation and not a hard dependency, sendmail and friends (sendmail-cf, sendmail-base) get installed automatically.

This occurs in 9.10, 9.04, and some earlier releases. It occurs with the current jove package (4.16.0.70-3.1) and may also have occurred with previous versions.

Suggested outcome:
1) Jove neither installs nor recommends sendmail or
2) Jove recommends, but does not automatically install sendmail.

That seems like it would make sense--is there any chance that sendmail could be made optional or recommended? It was just surprising to see that a light-weight editor (or so I thought) would pull in a heavy-weight package like sendmail.
