Bug Description

I did yet another fresh install yesterday of
* Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6

Did all the updates as of 09:20 monday 29 sept.

No tweaking has been done apart from:

* setting sudo timeout to zero
* setting ufw to default deny and enabling ufw
* setting Windows XP as the default in grub.
* and finally setting sound to OSS, as the defaults here continually freeze when playing music for any length of time

Opted to apply the Nvidia driver for my video card - version 173 for my Nvidia FX5500.

Firstly I noticed no progress shown in the progress bar, and then a window popped up with "jockey-gtk crashed with DBusException in dbus_sync_call_signal_wrapper()" and then the progress bar moved to 88 % and eventually to 100%.

At this time the progress window and the installation screen for the hardware drivers are still up instead of automatically closing upon a successful installation - it has done this in the past and yet on reboot the driver is fully functional.

thanks
