Bug Description

An update screwed up my nvidia driver and I can't install it again with the restricted driver manager because it says: "Reconfiguring X.org video drivers is not possible: /etc/X11/xorg.conf is invalid."

I'm using updated Intrepid.

I can confirm this bug.
Same thing here.

It doesn't matter what the content of xorg.conf is (I've tried reconfiguring it using "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"), it still shows that error.

Can you please attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf? Jockey is right in not trying to mess with an already invalid xorg.conf any further, since there is no chance we can get it fixed again without totally throwing away the user's configuration.

How did it get broken in the first place?

Of course the file might actually be valid, and jockey just fails to parse it. That's why I'm interested in seeing your version. Thanks!

Actually, mine's been resolved.
I just had to use Synaptic to remove the NVidia driver I had installed before the upgrade, then it parsed the existing xorg.conf just fine.

Thanks for testing again. I close this bug report now. Please shout if it still happens for you.

kabbage: which package did you uninstall exactly? I tried nvidia-glx-177 and I still got the error message. Then I uninstalled every nvidia package then jockey appeared totally empty. I couldn't try anything else cuz I have another bug in network manager and I'm unable to connect to the internet. I think I'll need to reinstall the whole thing soon..

I reinstalled some packages so jockey is now able to find drivers but it still can't install them.
(After the latest update my mouse stopped working. I'm disappointed in Intrepid..)

Your xorg.conf is not valid as it contains references to sections that don't exist. Please try replacing it with the attached file.

Thanks, it worked. Some bad upgrade led to this problem, hope it won't happen again.
