this happens because when something just works somebody at ubuntu feels the uncontrollable urge to mess things up...
explanation: d/audio. conf file BUT they didn't update the jack audio connection kit package accordingly.
in ubuntu 10.04 developers have moved the nice values related to audio priority from the limits.conf file to the /limits.
workaround: limits. d/audio. conf file, open it, copy the desired nice values, go one folder back, open the limits.conf file, paste the values in the file and save it. start jack. done.
navigate to /etc/security/
solution: update the jack audio connection kit package OR move the nice values back to the limits.conf file.
