ipython -pylab broken on karmik (9.10)

When running ipython -pylab on karmik kooala the prompt appears and no further keyboard input is acknowledged. The output is just:

I encountered this after upgrading since my own app which is an enhanced ipython shell which uses wx and pylab started getting stuck, and I was looking for a simple test case. ipython -pylab isn't exactly a simple test case, but it's what I have right now, and it is reproducible.
I believe this bug is the same or related to /bugs.launchpad .net/ipython/ +bug/270856

Also, i tested the 0.10 package available from debian and i no longer encounter this problem. One more reason to get 0.10 into Karmic i guess (see https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ ipython/ +bug/427526)
