Downloaded Ubuntu installer for window. During installation it resets and fails to complete

Bug Description
After my computer restarts, I chose Ubuntu from the boot menu. It was in the midst of installation and reset.Subsequently when it tried to install Ubuntu, error messages were displayed that it prompted that it had previously been installed.
My installation for Ubuntu-9.10 is on a new Seagate drive with 160GB free space.My desktop is a GigaByte GA-M52S-S3P motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.31 GHz, 6.00GB of RAM running on WIn XP professional version 2002 SP3.
