Install crashes at step 4. no device or partition found. And no place to find an answer!

Bug Description
Quad core processor, 100gig unallocated on one SATA drive plus another 160 Gig SATA for data.
8 Gig of RAM.
Windoze Vista 64bit home premium.
All drives defragged prior to shrinking the boot drive.
Gparted on the install drive is useless.
Documentation and/or places to post a question with enough information to provide a tech with enough information to provide a relevant answer is, as far as I have been able to find, non-existant.
Since I have been trying to get ubuntu installed since August, and have found no answers, or any place to post a question, am I irritated? Yeah, pretty much.
