Bug Description

If you read Ubuntu 13.10 Installation guide here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-desktop-latest

in "Step 5" it says: "Not sure about this step? Windows users can use the Windows installer, which will install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It’s simpler and completely safe."

and it links to wubi's homepage. However, wubi is not supported for Ubuntu 13.10 and this sentence should probably be removed.

Thanks. There is another bug on that page. At the very bottom of the page there is a sentence "More detailed technical instructions are available on the Ubuntu wiki" which links to https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/installation-guide/index.html

it should be linking to https://help.ubuntu.com/13.04/installation-guide/index.html

Why is this a problem? wubi.exe was published/released with 13.10 saucy release. http://releases.ubuntu.com/13.10/wubi.exe

Because wubi can install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS only (see http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer )

wubi can install 12.10, 13.04 and 13.10 just fine. And I tested that with each release.
It is true that ubuntu.com does not recommend it, as it doesn't work for all computers (specifically it doesn't work with windows UEFI based ones).

Nonetheless, there is a warning check soon to be merged into wubi that will show warning dialog and abort if/when UEFI is detected.

I was under the impression that wubi cannot install anything above Ubuntu 12.04

In that case we can close this bug.

The very bottom of the http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-desktop-latest page still refers to https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/installation-guide/index.html
instead of referring to https://help.ubuntu.com/13.10/installation-guide/index.html
