Bug Description

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

Release 10.04 LTS

When I booting xen-kernel
kernel /boot/xen-3.3.gz
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-23-xen root=UUID=2a6c0f23-3d29-4204-a41f-59ea3a6b4f1d ro console=tty0
module /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-23-xen

wait-for-root crashes and system fall down to busybox.

Non-xen kernels are booting ok.
e.g.:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-25-generic-pae root=UUID=2a6c0f23-3d29-4204-a41f-59ea3a6b4f1d ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-25-generic-pae

Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
initramfs-tools version: 0.92bubuntu78

All other packages are updated to actual versions.

I decided to reopen this bug because it is a legitimate problem. Basically some people upgraded their Ubuntu Xen systems from 8.04 through 9.04 by continuing to use the kernels from 8.04 ie 2.6.24. However, starting with 9.10 and above these kernels would fail to boot. The solution is to switch to Debian for Xen hosts which has better support for Xen. For those who are stuck with Ubuntu I do not think there is any solution but to run 8.04 and hope that 12.04 supports Xen and upgrade then.
