Bug Description
This report and its comments describe symptoms of a problem wherein the root filesystem is not mounted after a kernel upgrade.
It is unlikely that they share a common cause, and further analysis is needed to isolate the problem(s).

Thanks for allocating this appropriately.
So, I fixed the booting problem with the following command:
sudo update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.17-10-generic
I'm not sure what this implies. I made a backup of the previous initrd
image in case it would be useful for the bug report. Just say the word
and I will upload it.
