regeneration initrd images error breaks system upgrade

Bug Description

Distro: Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy.

I had some time ago selfmade kernel package (made with "make-kpkg --initrd ..."). Later I purged it with aptitude. Today I was doing system upgrade (aptitude upgrade) and it didn't finish because of dpkg error caused by update-initramfs trying to regenerate images for nonexistent kernel.

To fix this I had to manually delete files related with the kernel from /var/lib/initramfs-tools.

Do you remember what files, or have a list of the files you had to delete? This list would be useful to us.

~/.bash_history might be of use in remembering.

Those were:

/var/lib/initramfs-tools/$kernel-version

exapmle:
my kernel versions were "2.6.22-14-xar" and "2.6.22-14-xar2" so I removed:
/var/lib/initramfs-tools/2.6.22-14-xar
/var/lib/initramfs-tools/2.6.22-14-xar2

Changed in aptitude:
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

Retargetting to initramfs-tools as it's not a bug in aptitude.
