It looks like there are two problems here, there is something wrong with your eatmydata configuration and initramfs-tools tries to act on the error messages regarding eatmydata.

ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libeatmydata/libeatmydata.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored.
cp: cannot stat ‘ERROR:’: No such file or directory
E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/fuse failed with return 1.

Do you have the package libeatmydata1 installed?

Oh, I did not at first see that the bugreport is related to eatmydata. libeatmydata changed the .so localtion between utopic and vivid (from /usr/lib to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu), but the LD_PRELOAD was set only once before starting aptitutde (sudo eatmydata aptitude) and hence was pointing to the old .so which ceased to exist after the package upgrade. Sorry for the noise. So I think this bugreport is invalid, unless this special transition should be handled specially.

ld.so's message "... cannot be preloaded ..." is from glibc-2.21/elf/rtld.c -- http://osxr.org/glibc/source/elf/rtld.c#0818 . It means initramfs-tools is reading stderr and parses the output. It is not clear from the output where exactly this happens.

This was an upgrade issue, triggered by the use of libeastmydata over the upgrade. Closing out Invalid.
