Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

I just tried booting kernel 2.6.22-6.13, 64-bit, linux-image-2.6.22-generic on my HP nx6125 (single-core Turion processor) and it silently hangs just after the kernel prints "Clocksource acpi_pm installed", no visible oops appears. I've tried booting with various combinations of "acpi=off noapic nolapic" but none of them have helped so far. The last kernel that I'm sure boots without problems is 2.6.20-15-generic (the Feisty release kernel).

Will investigate more...

As mentioned before the hang does not cause an oops, and I can still reboot using ctrl-alt-del. I did get a stack trace with alt-sysrq-t. Blurry and incomplete cellphone pic attached.

I also tried 2.6.22-rc5 and 2.6.21.5 from kernel.org. Both those kernels hang, in the same way as the Gutsy kernels.

The computer doesn't actually hang completely, if I let it be for five minutes or so, something times out and the boot proceeds normally.

Also, after rebuilding the initramfs for the Feisty kernel, that kernel now has the same symptoms. In other words, this seems to be an initramfs bug and not a kernel bug.

I forgot to mention that this is with version 0.85eubuntu10 of initramfs-tools.

The hang lasts for exactly 190 seconds, if that gives a clue.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please also add the full output of 'lspci -vvn' from a booting kernel as an attachment to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
