weather applet will not install when using NFS home directories with rootsquash

Bug Description

sudo apt-get install indicator-weather

<snip>

Creating autostart files...
mkdir: cannot create directory `/home/XXXXX/.config/autostart': Permission denied
dpkg: error processing indicator-weather (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 indicator-weather
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

This user's home directory is on an NFS mount with rootsquash enabled. There is no way superuser can write into those directories, and the package is stuck in iF state.
