Bug Description

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Scrolling on the volume applet (part of Indicator Applet 0.3.6 on the Gnome panel) increases or decreases the volume accordingly.

Click on the applet first so that the volume slider is visible, the scrolling action does nothing.

Now click on Sound Preferences...; a dialog opens with the slider and other options. Now the scrolling action works.

I find this behaviour inconsistent, and I would prefer to have option to scroll and adjust the volume at all times.

I agree wholeheartedly. In many previous versions of Ubuntu clicking on the volume applet was enough to bring up a window which then made scrolling possible. Now I have to hover over the volume slider in order to get scrolling to work.

Also, is there a way to make the steps that the sliders takes less coarse? I think right now there are about 20 steps from 0-100% and I'd like to have at least 40ish. Otherwise I'm looking at 5-10dB for a few of the steps on the low end and fractional dB on the top end of the adjustment.

I can confirm this. However I don't really know what's the expected behaviour.

Current behaviour:
Scrolling on the indicator icon modifies the volume.
Clicking on the indicator icon and scrolling on the icon does not modify the volume.
Clicking on the indicator icon and moving the mouse to the sound scroll bar modifies the volume.

I agree that it would be nice to be able to modify the volume when the mouse is over the icon, even when the indicator was clicked and is showing the options.

A developer opinion would be useful here.
