'Updates avaible' is still remaining after terminal-update

Bug Description

From the system menu, the link "updates avaible" is still remaining after the system has been updated.

Expected result:
The link might changes in "System is up-to-date"

Actually result:
The link shows "Updates avaible"

Please note that UPDATE HAS BEEN COMPLETED WITH TERMINAL
using "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade"

I experienced the same thing after an upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04. Clicking on "install updates" would cause update-manager to appear to install updates without actually doing anything.
I ended up accidentally resolving the issue by selecting "Mark all upgrades" in synaptic.

bug 852181 is similar, for me the status of the indicator doesn't change using terminal to perform both operation (update and upgrade).
