Bug Description

The playback of music (stored on the phone, playing in the background) is paused briefly
when toggling the airplane mode or when toggling WiFi in the System settings.
However, toggling Bluetooth does not affect the music playback.

There should be no music playback pauses when toggling networking settings (Airplane mode, enable/disable WiFi).

This occurs on the E4.5 and MX4 with the latest OTA 5.
It does not occur on the Nexus 4.

A user reports that a bad signal can also cause interruption.

This is not caused by anything music-app is doing or even the media playback stack. I need to find the bug report already filed for this at the appropriate level. Thanks for reporting this bug though.

One question, which hardware did you use when reproducing this issue?

I tested with the bq Aquaris E4.5 (devel-proposed).

I'm having the same issue. Enabling or disabling the wifi through the indicator (or whatever they're called on Ubuntu Touch) pauses the music for at least a full second, while doing the same with rfkill on the command line works just fine without interrupting the music.

I'm also using the Aquaris, but I'm running the normal Ubuntu 14.10 (r21).

Same issue here on mx4, happens also when data go on/off because of low signal.

this could be related to the issue where the dash or the whole phone becomes sluggish when toggling wifi or data

There is a difference in how wifi is enabled and disabled on the MX4 and BQ phones which use the MTK wifi driver. The driver doesn't support the proper rfkill interface so it is opened and closed instead. This correlates to when the audio playback is interrupted.

From a private bug filed earlier: (bug #/1383236)

Whenever urfkill tries to on/off wifi, mtk_wmtd occupies CPU a lot and makes hickup on audio.
For testing, "setprop urfkill.hybris.wlan 0" and "pkill urfkilld" wouldn't invoke mtk_wmtd and no hickup any more.

no longer affects: indicator-network (Ubuntu)
no longer affects: music-app
no longer affects: media-hub (Ubuntu)
