Bug Description
I want the sound indicator so I can easily adjust the volume and mute.
I do not use any of the applications that use the e-mail/instant messaging indicator, so I do not want the envelope indicator in my panel. To that end, I un-installed all of the applicatoins that use the envelope indicator icon. No menu comes up when I click on the envelope, but the envelope icon will not go away.
It is a misdirection now since I use Thunderbird for e-mail, but the envelope implies that clicking on it will open my e-mail application, but it does nothing, and can not be made to open the Thunderbird application.
These notifications are completely unrelated and should be completely separate panel applications. At the very least there should be some way to turn off the envelope, or make it activate alternate e-mail applications.

the issue is supposed to be fixed in ubuntu 11.04 i.e. when no app is using the messaging menu there should be no messaging menu.
