Me menu cannot change the status from Offline to Online

Bug Description
Binary package hint: indicator-applet
When you go from some status, for example Online, to Offline in the Me Menu, empathy changes it's status to Offline as expected.
But when you want to go Online again, you cannot do that in the Me Menu. You will instead have to manually open empathy and set the status to Online.
Why cannot the Me Menu be able to set the status regardless of the current status, as long as empathy is running?
