OK, after uninstalling the Gnome weather indicator and restarting, none of my CPUs pegs at 100%. It indeed looks like indicator-weather is related to the issue, though that's counter-intuitive with indicator-datetime. Since I'm using AWN and have deleted the standard Gnome panels in 11.04, indicator-datetime should not even load.
