Yeah my indicator just suddenly stopped working and doesn't start, get the same error, and there were no updates going on that I know of, it just randomly stopped working...

This bug affects me as well. The indicator-cpufreq applet works fine in Ubuntu Gnome Classic running under 12.04 but will not work on Unity.
I had the same problem. It seems to be related with the used Icon Theme in Unity.
If I select in MyUnity the icon schema ubuntu-mono-dark or ubuntu-mono-light the Icon appear and everything works correctly.

Fabrizio Muscarella is right. That was a icon bug. Once change the icon theme, the indicator appears.

Same issue, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS using a gnome theme but under Unity. Installs fine but when I go to launch it, nothing appears, and it just hangs...
