Bug Description

Dear all,

I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 for one month now and today I decided to give the heads-up display a chance.

The stange thing is that the suggestions do not correspond with the application that has focus.

For instance if I open Terminal and type "open" to open a new tab, I get the suggestion to open my Dropbox folder.

I do not see the relevance of this suggestion at all.

Do I have to train the HUD and how could I do that?
Or is there a possibility to reset what the HUD has already learned?
Or perhaps it is just a bug in the software?

I would not know right now, but have to say it is completely useless on my machine.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Same problem. Also the top icon on the left changes to other applications while typing. See attachment. I started out in GIMP but it changed to some icon I'm not even sure what is.

I'm having this issue as well.

A bit more specific, I have the Dropbox application installed, when I use HUD, I get the options from the current application, but also from the Dropbox system status as well.

To recreate:
 1) Open any application (ex: Firefox)
 2) Open HUD (press Alt button)
 3) Begin typing 'Dropbox' - Firefox has no option dropbox
 4) Observe HUD results: it will return available options from the Dropbox system status icon

Unsure if this is due to HUD or the Dropbox app - I will report this issue to Dropbox as well

Thanks Gabriel for your confirmation.

But in your case it could be feature instead of a bug.

To make sure, people do not get me wrong:

In my case I will not get the application specific menu items at all.

I only get the menu items of totally unrelated applications (mostly dropbox or systems settings).

I think HUD is a great concept, but I have the same problem that it too quickly provides non focused-application results. Is there a way to force it to only return results from the focused application?

Ok, I found the problem: HUD only works if you make use of the global menu.

As I did not like the global menu on my 24 inch screen, I removed the package. That also leaves HUD inoperable as the commands for HUD are read from the global menu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/975274).

But perhaps a solution is on it's way:

I will retry it later.
