Menus items disappearing in some applications

Binary package hint: unity

I noticed this whilst using SpringSource Tools downloaded from here: http://www.springsource.com/developer/sts
(version 2.6.1 installed from the prepackage Linux 32-bit install)

A number of the menu options that would normally be in the menu seem to be missing or broken.

Under “Ubuntu Classic” when a have a Java source file open I get the following options:
  File, Edit, Source, Refactor, Navigate, Search, Project, Run, Window, Help

Viewing exactly the same file under a “Ubuntu” desktop session I get:
  Edit, Source, Refactor, Navigate, Window

Also the "Window" menu is supposed to have sub menus for the "Open Perspective" and "Show View" options, but instead there is no sub-menu and these options do nothing when selected.

As you can imagine this using this app quite difficult under Unity.

Odd. It's now working fine, I have no idea what was causing the problem but all my Menus are displaying fine now.

Spoke too soon, rebooted and the same behavior.

STS is a Java app. Hence, its menu should not come up in the global menu bar. Does the menu come up in the global menu bar or inside the window itself?

I just ran into this with Virtualbox 4.0.12. All menu items are missing and only a small gray area appear to drop down from the menu selection. Screenie attached.
