Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-application

When switching between applications, the menu entries that change in the global menu briefly flash white before changing. This happens about ~50% of the time.

See video for example (it happens two or three times near the end of the video).

Could you try if that's still an issue in natty? What videocard do you use? Do you run GNOME or unity?

Still happens in Alpha 3 in "Ubuntu Classic Desktop" but not in Unity. I have a ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670.

Happens here too with appmenu on gnome-panel using Intel graphics.

This white flash was there since the earliest introduction of the appmenu.

Is this not the same issue as bug #687567? If so, this should be marked a duplicate of it (the other bug report has grown larger and has more activity than this one).

Tobias Wolf (towolf) wrote :

I get flashes on an indicator-appmenu loaded in a gnome-panel whenever the menu changes to a horizontally longer menu.

This might have to do with gnome-panel and the variable length of the appmenu applet. So dunno if it’s a dupe.

Ah, I understood this bug wrong. It's a the menu entries flashing white, the other bug is concerned with the menus themselves flashing white. Might be for the same reason, but these should definitely be different bug reports.

This is still happening on 11.04. Did a clean install last night and it's up to date.

I second Scotts comment, 11.04 running gnome classic, and the "indicator applet application menu" obviously. Tried both with and without the metacity compositor, and compiz running. I should also note that the reason i added this "global menu" to the panel in the first place was because i noticed a brief redraw of the menu (bar) in the actual application window menu after a new window had been created, so i figured it wouldn't do that if i put it in the panel instead. Might have something to do with how this is implemented (read patched) in GTK/Metacity, i suppose.
Either way, i use a MBP 8,1 (13 inch), so that would be a sandy bridge intel HD 3000 GPU AFAIK.
