Its actually just a build issue so not a real bug (relief). Its already reported as bug 1053288 so I am marking this one as duplicate. I do believe that this may have actually fixed since I can't reproduce it anymore. The issue happened for me on Friday.

Omer, The bug you've marked this as a duplicate of, isn't matching the symptoms of what I'm seeing. Can you explain in more detail why you think its a build issue? I'm unmarking this a duplicate for now, and marking it as confirmed as iulian has seen it on updating packages today as well.

Attached are two screen shots, trying to better illustrate the issue.

@Omer, if you know of a work around to get things working again, please add this information.

Kate,

In your screenshots I am seeing two issues.

1. the app is running but there is no indication for that in the unity launcher on the left.
2a. there are no global menus
2b. when you maximize the app there are no window controls in the panel, neither is there the application title.

This is exactly what's reported in bug 1053288 (see Laura's screenshot).

Can you paste the result of 'apt-cache policy bamfdaemon' please.

For anyone experiencing this bug try:-

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop^

(the caret is important and will install the ubuntu-desktop task and pull in any missing dependencies).

woraround was: sudo cp /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libunity-webapps.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libunity_webapps.so.0

This should be fixed with the latest bamf build.
