according to: http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManager/SystemSettings

" Configuration

By default, the system settings service is configured through the /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf (NM 0.7 and 0.8.0) or /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf (NM 0.8.1 and later) file, which may be changed through use of the "--config=" argument for either nm-system-settings (NM 0.7) or NetworkManager (NM 0.8). This file must contain a "[main]" section that has at least one configuration option: "plugins". "

on my Natty system, /etc/NetworkManager/ have NOT NetworkManager.conf as needed by 08.1 and later package (0.8.2 installed), but the previous nss.conf from previous package. So the configuration need to be upgraded.

Thanks. I'm already aware of the issue with gtkImage stuff, it's actually due to libappindicator which doesn't seem to allow composited images (which NM uses extensively for lock icon for VPN or secured connections, for animations, etc.). Reassigning to indicator-application.

As for the config file naming, please keep different bugs separate and on different bug reports. That said, no need to open a new bug about this issue.

Marking as Fix Released. It's not ideal, but for now there are no longer any images tried to be added to the nm-applet menus, which is what was triggering the errors. We'll fix this to support signal strength indication in the list of available networks before release.
