I think a great usability tweak should be having the rhytmbox icon in the indicator applet to accept mouse wheel scrolling to change song (scrool up = next, scroll down= previous). Banshee does something similar and i got addicted to it. IMO it also makes the interface more accessible and quicker to be used. |
A reasonable amount of GtkStatusIcons were providing a service using the scroll events, like volume changing (gnome-volume-control) and track changing (Rhythmbox, Banshee, et al.). Indicator Applet doesn't support this.
It is suggested to allow applications to listen to a scroll event:
PROS:
* The event is currently not being used by something else.
* It is not visible whether an application uses scroll events, so it will only be for power users that are aware of the functionality, leaving the tray clean and simple for those who don't know
CONS:
* The Application Indicators were designed to only add a simple menu. This adds more.
* The use of the scroll event will probably be inconsistent, one application uses it for sound, the other for tracks, another for something completely different. It might be better to couple the scroll event to the PulseAudio representation of the application and only use it for audio. |
