Bug Description

If you uncheck the "Show Time in Menu Bar" menu item (if it was checked before that), battery icon and menu unexpectedly disappear; if you re-login, battery icon re-appears, so you can re-select "Show Time in Menu Bar" item.

It happens only in GNOME "classic" fallback session, not in Unity.

I've executed "ubuntu-bug indicator-applet-complete" and selected "other menu problems", but it reported the bug in "indicator-application" section. It's a little strange.

Bob, is the battery menu still disappearing when you unclick "Show Time" in indicator-power version 2.0-0ubuntu1 or higher?

charlesk,
yes, it still disappears on unchecking "Show Time In Menu bar" and I'm using (the latest in repos) indicator-power 2.0-0ubuntu1

I don't think this should happen anymore. Seems to be related to indicator-applet-complete since I don't have the issue here on Unity.

Can you confirm if the same issue happens under Unity?

bilalakhtar,
I've finally tested it in Unity;
no, it doesn't disappear this way in Unity.

The battery indicator is displayed in the "Indicator Applet Complete" panel. However, I can't use that, because I have a small, wide screen, and it behaves badly in a vertical panel.

Note: the sound indicator is likewise missing, but is present in "Indicator Applet Complete".

On my system, when I change the System Settings dialog for the display of this indicator, the setting does not hold: the pop-down menu always shows gray when I re-open the dialog.

I may have mistaken this bug for another, related one.

Anyway, part of the confusion for me, was that several Indicator Applet packages exist in Ubuntu, and more than one produce items in the Add to Panel dialog. For "indicator", Synaptic shows:

    indicator-applet indicator-applet-appmenu indicator-applet-complete indicator-applet-session

These do different things. I have not sorted out which does what. The descriptions don't say much. It would be helpful if there were an "About" for panel applets (wasn't there one before?)

'indicator-applet-complete' is the one that embraces the functions of all others;
I strongly suggest you to search for the corresponding bug or open a new one, because it's unrelated to my bug.
