Bug Description

I am on a connection that is working well (internal wifi, external USB wifi), but zero bars - probably it should always show 1 bar in this case? I imagine it is below the expected threshold.
If connection is working, better to always show 1 bar on the indicator.

v12.10.1

Please read the description and reproduce before adding generic comments
unrelated to this confirmed defect.

You'll be aware his email address isn't visible on a screenshot.

If you don't want to take it seriously, please close this defect and I'll
blog about saving time and never reporting any more Ubuntu defects

What email address? Aso that's not a stock reply, your description doesn't give any specific on the Ubuntu serie you are using (v12.10.1 you listed isn't even in any active Ubuntu serie, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-applet where trusty to disco are on 12.10.2). The issue could also be specific to the session or a theme one. Anyway feel free to blog anything you wish, but that bug report lacks informations to be worked on it's a fact

What did you see on WiFi applet About tab?
It's the applet version.

Apologies, wrong ticket. The zero bars is indicator version v12.10.1

I'll dig out a screenshot.

Thanks Jonny

Many thanks for triaging this.

Screenshot attached. The icon has 4 elements, and the smallest part is
not coloured white when connection is actually good. Bars either mean
connection strength, or connection transfer activity. Anyway, if it is
showing nothing, it gives the impression the connection has failed, when
actually I'm getting 40KB/sec+ on this Wi-Fi.
