The bug occurs with at least imapfilter v2.6.11 (distributed with 18.04) and probably older versions. A fix appears in v2.6.12, and Debian has their own patch.
What I expected to happen:
A successful connection to imap.google.com.

The oldest minimum version in currently supported Ubuntu versions is 1:2.6.16-1 in focal, which should have this bug fixed.
