So going through the logs, it shows that you or some script you ran removed /etc/init.d/networking on the system before you upgraded to saucy.

dpkg then asked you whether you wanted that file restored from the package and you said no, as a result the file is still missing and so the postinst fails as it (obviously) can't call it.

I'm not seeing anything that'd suggest that the removal of /etc/init.d/networking happened automatically (caused by some other package) and I can't reproduce that upgrade on a clean system here.

If you do manage to reproduce this on a clean raring => saucy update, please re-open the bug report.

Changed in ifupdown (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Got another report of this issue, so maybe it's not caused by user action after all, tentatively marking this bug as a duplicate of the other.

Fabio, to correct this error you will nevertheless need to install the new version of the conffile to /etc/init.d/networking. You should be able to do this with 'sudo mv /etc/init.d/networking.dpkg-dist /etc/init.d/networking && sudo dpkg --configure -a'.
