The menu is quite a lot wider than any of its items. The spinner looks like it is roughly where it should be if the menu was only as wide as it needed to be.

summary: - Hourglass always shows in sound settings applet
+ Misplaced spinner in sound menu

This looks like a rendering error rather than an i-sound error.

Hmmm. After I rebooted, there was no more a spinner/hourglass in the menu...
My menu seems correct width. IIRC the spinner was in the left half part of the menu.

Here's what I see on current Trusty:
* Initially when there's nothing playing the spinner appears at the correct position.
* When I start playing something the menu is made a lot wider when the "Now Playing" info appears.
* Now the spinner appears left of the Play button, over the "Previous" button as the menu is wider than before.
