Bug Description

I'm having trouble viewing certain Java applets from Firefox. The applets work fine if the url is fed into appletviewer (provided by openjdk-6-jdk), but running them in the browser gives various errors related to class loading. Examples of such errors would be either a class cast exception or class loader magic number error.

Problematic applets:
http://games.yahoo.com/console/tx
https://www.thirdfederal.com/Calculators/fixedmortgagecalculator.aspx

I have looked into the issue and confirmed it as a general issue.
I have labelled the bug with what, as far as I can tell, causes the issue.

Will look into a solution, thanks.

Fix in HEAD, closing as resolved.

If you wouldn't mind, I would appreciate validation that the latest release at the hg repository http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/icedtea-web is working as expected.

I quickly tried to build the latest plugin and I'm getting "configure: error: "A JRE home directory could not be found."" Is there a specific configure command I should run to have it overwrite the plugin provided by Ubuntu?
