Bug Description
installation of the java plugin from the Utopic repositories fails
this is reported during installation as a problem with the icedtea-netx package
the package is broken, reports at Debian say it is not fit for release at this time, because it prevents installation of the plugin.
the equivalent package at Trusty Tahr DOES work and installation does proceed properly
the difference is that modifications have been made at Debian to the package used in Utopic, these changes have been introduced to allow for java-8 which will appear later
however these changes create a package that at this time does not work
it is not fit for use at this time
the package offered at Trusty Tahr is viable as no such modification have been made
can I suggest that Utopic falls back to the version of the icedtea-7-plugin offered in Trusty until Debian has fixed the broken package?
this would then allow open java to function at Utopic and the new package could be reintroduced when it becomes viable
if links to Debian to show their reports on the matter are needed I can add them to this report.
i can also produce package version numbers if needed
sadly my work-around has to be to forgo Utopic and stick with Trusty for now
i would be pleased to cooperate in squashing this bug
