Bug Description

ibus says it can switch to Japanese but when I click to switch it doesn't work (neither does it work when I press ctrl+space). Also, it creates a weird half transparent box that I can drag around but doesn't do anything. Japanese is installed (and reinstalled and reinstalled) but no change in input is possible.

I expected when I press ctrl+space to be able to type in Japanese. Every other version of Ubuntu has worked (10.10 until 11.10).

Running Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.

I am also experiencing some of the symptoms described in the bug report above. I have two input methods to choose from when clicking on the iBus system tray icon, "Japanese - Anthy" and "Input method Off". One of them is always marked with a dot on the left - I suppose this is supposed to mark the currently selected input method.

Using keyboard shortcuts I can successfully enable and disable Japanese input, but the dot mentioned above does not move from this. So sometimes I am writing in Japanese even though the dot shows "Input method Off" selected, and sometimes the reverse happens. Of course sometimes the dot actually shows the correct settings too.

Using the mouse I can *sometimes* successfully move the dot around - e.g. selecting "Input method Off" when the dot is to the left of "Japanese - Anthy" *sometimes* moves the dot to "Input method Off". This does not result in the input method changing though, as in this case I would still be able to write in Japanese only.

Once more, in more simple words:
* Using my keyboard I can switch the input method between "Input method Off" and "Japanese - Anthy",
* Using my mouse I can *sometimes* switch which input method is shown as selected in the interface,
* The input method which is shown as selected is completely irrelevant to the input method I am actually using.

I have experienced this in both ibus-1.3.99.20110419-1ubuntu3 and the newest ibus-1.4.0-1ubuntu1.

Changed in ibus (Ubuntu):

Samething here on Ubuntu 12.04, ibus 1.4.1
The ibus-indicator in the panel cannot be used to change input methods with the mouse. However, (Ctrl + Space) to toggle ibus on/off and (Shift_left + Alt) to cycle through different input-methods works reliably. The only use of the ibus-indicator so far is the changing icon to identify which input-method is activated.

=> please improve the ibus-indicator

btw: the problem is not limited to Japanese. I have "Chinese - Pinyin" and "Other - unicode(m17n)" installed.
