Bug Description

I was using the iBus package to use a different language to input in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail. But after my upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander from Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, though I was notified that the combination for activating the iBus was changed to super+space (which was again a bad idea, because we were already accustomed to the ctrl+space combination), that didn't seem to change the input language.

But iBus seemed to work when 'Keyboard input method system' in the 'Language Support' setting was set to iBus. But again, the characters that were displayed were totally random and not according to the way they were displayed earlier.

Hope an update for iBus might come up soon

Removing the option to show an icon in the notificaion area is also an example of bad UI design.

I just upgraded to 13.10 and have the same problem. Come on, guys. You can't break important stuff like this. One of the reasons I use Ubuntu is that it has, at least up to now, had excellent foreign language support. Please at least fix this for the LTS release in April.

I recently upgraded from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS and this same bug seems to be affecting me. Ibus stopped working after the upgrade. At first it was not obvious because part of the upgrade also reset my keyboard to US English.

What happens (having changed the shortcut keys to something sane instead of Super-Space): the shortcut changes the notification icon, but leaves the language being typed unchanged.

How can something as important as keyboard input be so messed up in an LTS release??
