was you updating the system from a previous Ubuntu version? In that case, do you know what was prevous hylafax version?

Hallo Giuseppe,

Sorry my bad english.

I have installed hylafax 2:6.0.3-5.1ubuntu1 on my computer with ubuntu
10.04 and I wanted the same Version installed once more with synaptic.

I have also download the source of hylafax and i try to compile but not
to install (./configure, make)
I start faxtstat in my home folder. I get a error message. ( i habe
written a littele gui for hylafax and I search in the code to get
informationen for the begin from the connect to the telephonnumber und
the begin of send the pages of the fax. These information are in the
file /var/spool/hylafax/log/ c000000... and i want transfer these
information in the gui)

I thougt first, this is a mistake from hylafax and i thougt it is easy
to install hylafax once more with synaptic. Now I get the mistake message.
I checked the primary installation. faxstat and sendfax in /usr/bin
works correctly.

Could you try updating the packages while hylafax is stopped? Please type these commands:

# /etc/init.d/hylafax stop
# dpkg --configure hylafax-server
# dpkg --configure hylafax-client
# /etc/init.d/hylafax start

I have restore my root partition from an old backup and in the moment, I
do update my root partition. I will not break.
But It is not a problem to reinstall the partition with fsarchiver. I
do this tomorrow and then, I can excecute the commands. You get my
answer tomorrow.

Ok, probably I understood the problem: the /var/spool/hylafax/etc remain mounted even when stopping hylafax. Try to check it this way

# /etc/init.d/hylafax stop
# mount
.. check if it is mounted
# umount /var/spool/hylafax/etc
# dpkg --configure --pending
# /etc/init.d/hylafax start

let me know if this solve the problem.
