OK, I just ran through HWDB on my laptop w/o any issues. I just ran it on my AMD64 system w/o any issues as well.

re importance: this sounds to me like "Has a moderate impact on a large portion of Ubuntu users (estimated)"? no?

about the bug - not sure if all the bugs are just a result of the Feisty launch? hwdb.ubuntu.com says, scarily, "Submissions Total: 600288 Today: 394062".

Seems important to me since it breaks for more non-ascii users (although answers in non English languages aren't much use to me).

I can reproduce this bug by entering cyrillic text into the comment boxes.

I did NOT enter any non ascii symbols as I was writing in english (without accented symbols) in the comment boxes. Maybe only if hwdb adds some non-ascii text itself, based on the info on my computer (after all, I did provide some slovene info when I installed feisty, which may have included some non-ascii characters).

Oh, and btw. I noticed the same problem in Edgy.

agrabah: your crash sounds slightly different from the others, could you supply a backtrace?

OK, my bad... I tried to recreate the crash and noticed that I DID enter non-ascii characters in the comment fields (in the keyboard section; I entered some čšž-s). Anyway... if I don't enter these, the hardware report compiles and is sent to ubuntu HQ. I will add the ID, as the information that gets there seems not to correspond to the real situation (e. g. I do have a laptop)

Oh, and sorry again for causing the stir...

Accepted into feisty-proposed. NB that this does not require a no-change -updates upload after verification (see updated SRU policy).

I reproduced the crash in a VMware install of Kubuntu using a non-ascii character in the comments field when going through the wizard. I then installed the package from feisty-proposed, entered the same non-ascii characters and it did not crash.

What's ironic is that hwdb-kde actually invites the user to use the comment area to test the keyboard. People with non-english keyboards (a lot of people) naturally test non-us-ascii keys, hence the presumably high number of occurences of this bug (not everyone opens a launchpad account to complete the bug report).
