2009-02-20 17:49:32 Alexander J. Palmer bug added attachment 'Theme Spacing Comparison.png' (Comparison of two themes. Names covered by smallest possible rectangles.)
2009-02-20 17:55:22 Alexander J. Palmer description In the most recent update of the Human Netbook Theme (0.13~ppa1), I noticed a difference in the sizes between controls in the original Clearlooks theme and the Netbook derivative. In particular, I noticed that entries in Pidgin's Buddy List are quite a bit larger, as well as vertical scrollbars being much wider in all programs. There may be other differences, but these are all I've noticed. To reproduce: 1) Open up gnome-appearance-properties 2) Open up Pidgin, and display the Buddy List 3) Select the Human-Clearlooks theme, and take note of the size 4) Select the Human-Netbook theme, and take note of the difference Expected: The Netbook theme to be the same size (or smaller potentially) than the Clearlooks theme. What occurs: The Netbook theme controls are larger than the Clearlooks equivalents in many cases. This only appeared as of the newest version as mentioned above, but unfortunately I don't remember what the last one was, nor can I install it. All my fonts in the appearances panel are set to 8. The gaps appear to be independent of font size, meaning the gaps look more extreme the smaller the fonts you use. I'm running: - Eee PC 901 - Ubuntu Intrepid - Pidgin 2.5.2 - human-netbook-theme 0.13~ppa1 - human-theme 0.28.6 It might be a bit strong to call this an outright bug, but I just figured that when dealing with small resolution screens, you want to have smaller controls to match! P.S. This is my first bug report, so if you have any pointers on anything I missed or should do in future, please tell! I've just looked at other bug reports and followed by example. Over the height of my screen (600 pixels), I lose about 3 or 4 contacts that I'd otherwise be able to see without the extra spacing. 2009-02-23 12:18:33 Neil J. Patel human-netbook-theme: statusexplanation Thanks for reporting this (and you bug report was perfect :). The differences in the sizes of the widgets was due to a patch that shouldn't have been apart of the latest theme build. I've uploaded a new version without this patch, and the new version is building in the PPA's now for hardy and intrepid, so should make their way down to you sometime today. As a side note, there will be a bit of a difference between Clearlooks and the netbook theme because they are based on different 'engines' (which handle the drawing). We use Murrine as the drawing engine (as does Ubuntu, by default), so some-things will look different, or appear to use different padding.
