Bug Description

Binary package hint: hplip

When using hplip-gui under natty with Unity, every log in gets an error message popup "No system tray detected on this system". See attached screenshot.

This should simply fail silently when no system tray is present instead of popping up an error message.

This error will pop up if System panel doesn't have "Notification Area" item is not available.
We can add "Notification Area" item by right click on panel -> Add to Panel -> "Notification Area"

Thanks,

We can change the configuration settings by hp-toolbox -> Configure -> Preferences -> System Tray Icon -> Messages to show -> None. (or) you can also select "Hide when inactive"

In the Unity interface, it will not be possible to add the "Notification Area". People who will be upgrading Ubuntu and getting the Unity interface by default instead of the gnome interface shouldn't be expected to go play with settings to disable the tray icon.

Hello Marc,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with the hplip package. You made this bug report in 2010 and Ubuntu has been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.
