This is still happening with Lucid Beta 2. I'm not sure if this is a configuration problem on my behalf or if there is a package problem with cups. I would be pleased to provide any information that might be of assistance.

Can you post the output of

lpinfo -m | grep sample

Note that the 'Unable to remove temporary file "/var/spool/cups/tmp/.hplip" - Is a directory' is a bug of GHPLIP and not of CUPS.

It does not appear that sample is in the output of the lpinfo command.

Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with hplip. You made this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and hplip have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 553766
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
