On another note, using the post from the following bugreport fixes the issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/407344/

Nevertheless, Downgrading to cups 1.3.9–1 seems not the optimal choice and the bug should be fixed in future releases of Cups. Spent the whole day troubleshooting the printer setup in a network installation, finding out at the end that cups is instable.
Please give any comments or hints how I can help in fixing this issue. Thanks.

Can you also try the proposed fix of bug 463059 to see whether this helps? Thanks.

this bug also affects me. When it "release job" in CUPS admin, printing goes OK. I'm using sleep and hibernation ; perhaps this bug is related to this.

ITCons, is your printer connected and turned on? Did your router perhaps give another IP to your printer?

ITCons, is your printer connected and turned on? Is your USB cable OK? Does "lsusb" still show your printer after suspend/hibernation?

Hello Till,

my printer is connected by network and usually switched of. This is an interesting idea ; I should make a try putting my computer sleeping and then restart it, but with my printer awake.

The bug is still present with lucid-beta-2 (near rc).

Hello Itcons,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with hplip. You made this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and hplip have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 503471
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and hplip better.
